SAP RUN FIDDLERS is a youth fiddle group under the wing of The Vermont Fiddle Orchestra which is directed by Sarah Hotchkiss with the help of fiddlers, John Mowad and Sarah Blair and various other guest fiddle instructors.  Events are structured so that families can pick and choose which events to participate in to suit their schedules.  Families access the information through this website and the Sap Run Fiddle E-list which is managed  by Woodbury Strings. Young fiddlers all over the state of Vermont and beyond may pick a one time event (workshop, concert, contradance, jam session, etc.) or a series of events to participate in, learn the tunes through the help of their own private fiddle teachers or family members, and show up ready to participate.  Sap Run Fiddlers are always invited to perform at the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra end of session concerts and often at other events.   There is a workshop series (see schedule) leading up to the concert for which tunes are learned.  These tunes get added to the Sap Run Fiddlers repertoire.  Participants can learn any or all of the tunes, whether they attend the workshops or not, and join in at the preconcert rehearsal on the same day of the concert. A list of tunes needed as well as information about upcoming events for area youth folk musicians and their families can be obtained by contacting Sarah Hotchkiss.  Ask to be on the Sap Run Fiddle E-list and you'll always know what is coming up!

Workshops and events are often hosted for all levels of playing.  In the case where certain levels of playing are targeted in an event, there is a list below describing what we consider those levels to be to the best of our ability.  We hope that you find this helpful, but feel free to ask if you are uncertain.
